The Offseason Arrives

It’s always tough when the Cowboys are out of the playoffs.

Romo just needs to win Sunday

Forget all of the stats and the other things being thrown out there to argue that Tony Romo deserves a pro bowl spot over Eli Manning (aside: I find it funny that Pro Bowl spots now “count” since the Cowboys aren’t being handed many of them. Many in the DFW area used to disregard the Cowboys Pro Bowl votes in years past). If Tony wants to prove that he’s a better quarterback, just win this Sunday.

Better team=Better QB. Sometimes it’s as simple as that and it’s about time that the Cowboys beat the Giants in a big game… It’s been about four years since that has happened (and the Cowboys still didn’t win the biggest game between the two foes that year)!

Never has an entire nation

been so concerned about one man’s right hand. See the link below:

http://www.cowboysnation.com/2011/12/most-valuable-digits-in-cowboys-land.html

If you watched any of the (sleepy) game yesterday, I’m sure you heard Joe Buck and Troy Aikman lamenting the health of Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo. He played one series in the first quarter before leaving with a hand contusion. Video screenshots of his hand afterwards showed an obviously bruised hand being wrapped by the trainers. Early word is that Romo will be able to play next week but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be operating near 100% effectiveness.

Oh, and that game? Save for a Miles Austin touchdown in “garbage” time, the Cowboys seemed pretty uninterested in the whole affair. Even if they had been interested, I’m not sure they could have stopped Michael Vick and the Eagles. These Eagles match up very well against the Cowboys with their speed, ball skills and agility on the offensive/defensive line. Still, the Eagles were the authors of their own demise this year. The “Beast” of the NFC East will be decided next Sunday. Will the Cowboys finally rise to the occassion at the end of the season?

I hope so.

Cowboys reclaim 1st place and

all I can think about is the doomsday scenario:

Cowboys 8-8

Giants 8-8

Eagles 8-8

Guess who takes the division if this happens? Yes, it’s the Eagles which is a scary thought given how far they fell this season. It’s time for the Cowboys and Giants to step up and show some consistency. Otherwise, both teams will be home for the playoffs, a scenario no one would have envisioned weeks ago (actually, I did but partially in jest).

Next week’s games will be fun to watch no matter which team you care about!

Tomorrow’s Game

will be tough. Let’s see if the Cowboys are prepared for a rough road game. Weird things seem to always happen in Arizona.

Go Cowboys!

Cowboys win!

That was an exciting win over the Dolphins on Thanksgiving Day. If you watched the Thanksgiving game last year, you would know how the Cowboys like to keep things close even when they should be winning handily.

I was most impressed by Laurent Robinson’s touchdown catch in the second half. If you noticed, there was also “classic Tony Romo” scrambling out of the pocket to his left and making a play when there was seemingly no where to go.  Now, with his ribs improved, he looks like the Romo we’ve come to know and love (and sometimes wonder about – sorry Tony).

I’m still skeptical that the Cowboys can win the next couple of their games but beating the Cardinals this week would be a start!

AJohn

It looks like Andre Johnson will finally be back in my fantasy football lineup this week. With his help, I may be able to salvage the rest of the season in one of my leagues this year!

Nick

P.S. Yes, it’s been a tough year for me in fantasy football.

Wow, what a win – Part II

I’ll take a win over the Skins any day, even if it’s a 27-24 squeaker in OT. There were some so-so and some great performances by the team tonight.

Tony Romo – You were like a wizard out there. Great work on both touchdown passes to Robinson and Witten (for those of you who missed the action, Romo spun out of the pocket to his left both times and threw absolute bull’s-eyes  for touchdowns).

Dez Bryant – Great catch on 3rd down in overtime to put the Cowboys in FG range.

Dan Bailey – Keep up the good work… Your foot has been so reliable this year that I’m getting scared to see what happens next (although the Cowboys deserve this kind of reliability after the unsure kicking they received the last two years).

Jason Hatcher – You did a great job getting some pressure on the QB when the Cowboys rushed only 3, 4 or 5 players.

Wow, what a win.

And totally not what I expected!

I think it’s time to go on an extended winning streak that continues on in Washington this week!

Bills vs. Cowboys

Suddenly, it’s 1993 and I’m 9 years old all over again.

I think this is a tough game for the Cowboys… There are too many people on the Bills with connections to Dallas or the Cowboys glory years (think Gailey, Wannstedt, F. Jackson, D. Nelson. etc.). Since they’re playing the Cowboys in Dallas, they’ll be extremely motivated to win. If the play of the Cowboys against super-motivated, highly-emotional competition the last few years is any indication of how they will play today. I’m not very hopeful.

More tangibly, it’s also going to hurt that Sean Lee will be playing at less than 100% and Miles Austin will be sidelined. It’s time for Dez Bryant, Bruce Lee and some other youngsters to step up and show that the Cowboys have more depth than the critics (such as myself) believe they do. A big game from D. Murray would help, as well!

What’s my prediction? Ever the optimist, I say Bills 27 Cowboys 16.
